This is one of those movies that really don't have a plot to speak of. It's more a series of peaks into the lives of the Senior class of Ridgemont High.
These peaks are hysterically funny, and, surprisingly enough, original. This is the quintessential 80s movie. It is filled with funny that people are still quoting almost 25 years later.
Yet there is also a heart to this movie that makes you care about these want them to succeed. The soundtrack is absolutely 80's too.
I really don't feel right giving this movie a 10 because it's really not great cinema, but it is a great movie, so it gets a good solid 8.

Perhaps coming from a different culture makes me view this film a little differently. I feel rather sorry for Mr Hand, who has little respect from the surfer guy. I feel even more sorry for Stacey, who is initially very innocent, but succumbs to her curiosity. The surfer guy is annoying and has no respect for anyone, so I have developed much dislike towards his character.
The film is perhaps a generalisable portrait of life in the eighties for teenagers in USA. However, I didn't find it quite funny or entertaining.

Yes it was one of the first teen comedies, yes it's one of the best,and also the best written. The characters act like real teenagers. The situations for the most part and the way they deal with them are realistic, and because of that, this movie sets a standard not often reached. The main reason to watch this film however is that it's funny as hell, and in a good comedy that all that really matters.
